Laura Dern and Billie Lourd Know How to Bring The Bling

I’m an actress so I love themes,” said Laura Dern, dressed in a sapphire blue frock by Stella McCartney, punctuated by glittering accents mimicking the moments after a champagne cork is released at Mo?t & Chandon’s cocktail partyfor it’s Film Festival competition. “The colors are like champagne!” exclaimed Dern who has been testing the waters in various different silhouettes and designers during her recent press tour for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Working with stylist Cristina Ehrlich, Dern said, “we both love design, film, and visual artists — it’s fun to work with someone whose references are similar.” The resulting looks have included ethereal frocks from Alexander McQueen, strong suiting from Gabriela Hearst, and sultry and sheer numbers by Vivienne Westwood Couture. “I love brave, inventive thinking, and [Cristina] makes me feel boundary-less which I love to feel as an actor.” As for the process, Dern likened designers to directors. “Raf Simons does things that are as mad and brilliant as David Lynch does in cinema. To get to collaborate with amazing designers is an incredible privilege.”

Sharing that sentiment was Dern’s Last Jedi co-star Billie Lourd, fresh off a boat and flight from Venice, Italy. “I don’t know how, but I’m happy about it,” beamed the ingenue in a plunging v-neck Gucci dress. “Give me sparkle, give me life!” exclaimed Lourd who has found her style soulmates in Tom Ford and Alessandro Michele’s designs for Gucci. “Tom Ford and I have done some awesome collaborations,” said the actress of her glittering metallic dress by the American talent she wore to Star Wars premiere last month in Los Angeles. “He makes people feel really sexy. Sexy and classy at the same time.” As for her Gucci obsession? “All Gucci things,” said Lourd succinctly. “I’m obsessed with it."
